In the heart of Germantown, around the corner from Nachbar, in between Eiderdown and Four Pegs, and across the street from Hauck’s sits Yesternook, one of Louisville’s newer secondhand stores tucked inside the body of a former funeral home. Perhaps it’s the English major in me, or perhaps it’s because my favorite movie is Harold and Maude, but I find it quaint that the building is serving a similar purpose, but for things.
Unlike the more well-known Goss Avenue Antiques, which is within walking distance from Yesternook, you can feel safe to browse through the various vendor areas without fear that you may be making an unwanted $500 purchase if you knock something over. Yesternook utilizes both floors of the building—they even have some items in the garage out back and recently added a “Christmas Cavern” in the basement—almost creating a maze of old cameras, vintage 1970s glassware, records, toys, furniture, and more. It’s typical antique mall fare without the questionable toiletries (If you’ve been to a flea market around town, you know what I’m talking about). Yesternook is like the working man’s Goss Avenue Antiques.
If you’d like to give some TLC to their collection of vintage items, you can visit Yesternook at 1041 Goss Avenue. They are open Monday through Saturday from 10 – 6, and Sundays from 12 – 5.
