This past Friday and Saturday, Christ Church United Methodist on 4614 Brownsboro Road held their third Worth New York trunk show, where attendees could purchase clothing from the New York-based fashion house for 50 percent off retail. The pieces on hand were from Worth’s various trunk shows for the autumn/winter 2012 season, and proceeds from the trunk show went to both Wesley Manor Retirement Community and Portland Promise Center.
CCUM Friendship Class member Glenda Thacker, who worked for Worth New York for 10 years, explained to Louisville.com the upscale clothing label’s reasoning for choosing to show their wares four times a year in customers’ homes, stating that it was “just the way they started out, rather than having stores,” allowing Worth and its representatives to have “a very personal relationship” with the clientele. When it came time for Thacker to host the trunk shows, she opted to turn the affair into a charitable shopping event benefiting the two local charities where the Friendship Class has had long-held relationships.
Regarding the 60-member organization itself, President Ron Scherzinger described the Friendship Class as a group of “Christian people who are very friendly and just help each other in all different ways,” as well as the local community and the Methodist Church, from their participation in international and local missions to fundraisers such as their trunk show.
As for the success of the Friendship Class’s third Worth New York show, though Thacker didn’t have the final figures at press time, she did note that this show had already exceeded the previous shows in raising funds for Wesley Manor – who provide financial support and full service to their elderly residents – and Portland Promise Center, the West End-based organization devoted toward low-income families and children.
