I was born in 1971, so I remember most all of the stuff played on 100.5 GEN-X...unfortunately. True to the mostly DJ-free, Jack-FM ('60s-'70s-'80s radio stations that are usually owned by corporations and have essentially the same playlist for every market) radio model, the output is as bland as many of the so-called "hits." I mean, how many times do we have to hear the Goo Goo Dolls' "Slide," an annoyingly upbeat song about abortion? Where's Jane's Addiction? Siouxie? The Pixies? The Smiths—or even Morrissey, for that matter? We're not talking obscurity here, people. Pair that with the smirking commercial break bumpers by the Jim Halpert soundalike and you've elevated my generation to the height—or depth—of parody as we truly do become our parents, listening to only the dreck of our youth and calling it good times. President Reagan would be pleased.
