Memorial Day at Churchill Downs

Honor the veteran or active military member in your life this Memorial Day at Louisville’s historic Churchill Downs. Those with an active duty or retired military ID will be granted free admission to the racetrack on Monday and will also be offered a special discount for a meal on Millionaire’s Row. The Downs’ gates will open at 11:30am with a military salute being held before the first race at 12:45pm. Check out Churchill Downs’ website for more details.
Flags4Vets at Waterfront Park

Using 25,000 American flags from the graves of fallen soldiers, volunteers of this event will spell out “USA” on the waterfront’s Great Lawn. Together, the letters will stretch 450’ wide. Once completed, Mayor Greg Fischer will hold a Memorial Day service in honor of America’s fallen soldiers. Visit Waterfront Park’s website to learn how you can get involved.

The Louisville Bats will face the Toledo Mud Hens on Memorial Day and all retired and active duty military members are invited to attend the game for free. Just show your military ID at the ticket booth to receive your free ticket. The game starts at 4:05pm.

Memorial Day Service in Veterans Cemetery Central

Join soldiers from Fort Knox as they honor their fallen colleagues at Radcliff's Veterans Cemetery this Memorial Day. This beautiful cemetery serves as the honorable resting place for many veterans and those who have perished in combat. Located directly south of Fort Knox, Radcliff sits 35 miles south of Louisville and makes for a pleasant mini-roadtrip destination. The ceremony begins at 11:30am. This isn't a drill, military families! It's a little far away, but this deal is worth it. All active duty and retired military members will receive free admission into Kings Island this Memorial Day weekend. Present a valid military ID to receive free admission into the park May 27-30.
