Get Lit(eracy) with GLOW Financial Seminar at UofL
Greater Louisville Outstanding Women, or GLOW, will host the first of three free financial seminars for women on Thursday, January 15 from 5:30 – 7:00 at the University of Louisville. This set of financial seminars correlates with the organization’s “Get Lit(eracy) with GLOW” campaign that launched in September 2014. The first panel will feature a CPA, broker, corporate lawyer, financial planner and veteran woman business owner. “The goal of this financial series is to enable young professionals to make smart decisions regarding their business and money they put in to it,” continued Houston. “The members of GLOW couldn’t be more excited to teach what they know and, in turn, enable smarter choices and smarter women.”

Thirsty Thursday: The Night Before the Long Dry Spell at Evan Williams
Before it was the ubiquitous term for a night of heavy drinking, Thirsty Thursday had an entirely different meaning. Thursday, January 15, 1920, the original Thirsty Thursday, was the last day to legally purchase alcohol before Prohibition went into effect.Come join The Filson Historical Society as we celebrate the last day of legal alcohol sales with a tasting of “Old G.D. Bourbon,” a product that was bottled in the 1890s, along with Evan Williams and Larceny Bourbons from Heaven Hill. Bourbon Historian Mike Veach will share the history of the temperance movement that created the long dry spell commonly known as Prohibition. In addition to the history, participants are invited on a self-guided tour of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.

2 Nights of Lucero at Headliners Music Hall
Over their 16 years together, the Memphis band has built up a fanbase that’s as diverse as it is rabid. Ask 50 Lucero fans what their favorite song is and you’ll get 50 different answers. Among the band’s 100-plus songs across nine albums and multiple EPs, there’s no universal fan favorite. “Each person makes Lucero their own thing,” says frontman Ben Nichols. “Everyone identifies with us for completely different reasons. For one reason or another, Lucero becomes a very personal band.” Whether you look towards slower Lucero songs to get you through tough times like “Nights Like These” or party jams like “All Sewn Up,” Live from Atlanta has got you covered. It might even make fans out of non-believers (especially if they like whiskey). Because like bassist John C. Stubblefield always says, “Lucero loves you.”

Don't miss Landlady at Zanzabar, where they will be touring behind their full-length Upright Behavior, out now on Hometapes. Led by Adam Schatz (of Man Man and mastermind of Winter JazzFest and nonprofit Search and Restore), they've recently joined the likes of Bear in Heaven and Megafaun on Hometapes. Schatz has shared stages and recordings with countless others (see the saxophone runs he lent to Vampire Weekend's "Diane Young"), but with Landlady he's truly at home.
