Archival Film: The Great Male/Manual Football Rivalry at the Library at Oxmoor Farm
It was once said that there were three major events in Kentucky sports: The Kentucky Derby, opening day for the Kentucky Colonels, and the annual Male/Manual football game. While the Derby is always a huge event, the latter is still true today, with the rivalry between Male High School and duPont Manual High School going strong nearly 122 years after it first began in 1892. In the past year, The Filson Historical Society has preserved amateur film footage found within our collections with backing from generous contributions from community members. Among the films, we discovered footage of some of the famed Male/Manual games, dating from 1938-1946. Please join us as we view this footage with discussion and commentary from members of the DuPont Manual and Male High School Alumni Associations. After the film, there will be a panel of alumni representatives from each school to talk about the rivalry as it was and continues to be today.

    Relic at the Monkey Wrench
Relic is a Louisville-based bluegrass acoustic roots band. The core of the group includes twin brothers Aaron Bibelhauser (on banjo) and Adam Bibelhauser (on bass), along with guitarist Chuck Sharp and mandolinist Dave Howard (of The 23 String Band). Relic’s original material and interpretations of Flatt and Scruggs, the Osborne Brothers, and the Dillards, may sit right along side adaptations of Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Elton John or the Beatles. The Relic “sound” is equally progressive as it is rooted in tradition and tastefully rounded out by the addition of percussionist Tavis Conley and guest fiddle virtuoso Jeff Guernsey.
