VinylFest will make its second record debut to the Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport Hotel August 29-31, 2014. 12th Annual WorldFest at the Belvedere
WorldFest, one of the region’s largest international festivals, will span the entire Labor Day weekend for its 12th year as it features four days of international food, music, dance and culture on Louisville’s Belvedere downtown. Exciting international music will come from more than 90 bands and performers while more than 30 food vendors and nearly 150 booths provide a global sampling of cuisine and culture. In addition to local and regional world music performers, national touring acts will include DakhaBrakha, Azucar Tumbao, Buckwheat Zydeco, Red Baraat, The Ark Band and Jazz in Pink. Admission to WorldFest is free all four days. "Monsters: A Celebration of Horror Classics" at the Louisville Palace
After a five-year hiatus, The Louisville Palace is bringing back its bone-chilling, audience pleasing, horror film series: Monsters: A Celebration of Horror Classics from Universal Studios. Running from Aug. 1 to Aug. 30 at The Louisville Palace, this 10-movie package pays homage to cinematic figures of fear that became enduring legends through blockbuster films released by Universal Studios - the preeminent purveyor of horror cinema from the 1920s to the 1960s. There will be one screening on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. On Saturdays, there will be three screenings at 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Outsized Influence Music Festival
Whether you know it or not, Bellarmine University, although a small institution, is rich in musical tradition. Through a grassroots effort in the Bellarmine community, the first annual Outsized Influence Festival, a one day, three stage, and FREE event, will capitalize on that excellence on Saturday, August 30. Each band at Outsized Influence is represented by at least one Bellarmine student, faculty member, or alum. Fire The Saddle, Outsized Influence’s headliner, is set to play their first show together in nearly eight years! Additionally, Outsized Influence will feature genres across the board including the mixing styles of DJ Dr. Dundiff, the guitar virtuoso Craig Wagner and his trio, and Small Time Napoleon who keeps everyone swinging with their combination of jazz, folk, and pop. The festival will feature alums who graduated as early as 1991 and as late as this year as well as current students.

20th Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike & Paddle
Join Mayor Greg Fischer for the 20th Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Subway Fresh Fit Hike, Bike & Paddle! For cyclists, a 15-mile route will leave Waterfront Park and go west to Shawnee Park, one of Louisville’s signature Olmsted-designed Metro Parks. Turnoffs will provide cycling routes as short as two miles. The hiking route, which is wheelchair-accessible, will take walkers west along the Riverwalk and wharf to the Belvedere Connector and through portions of downtown. Walkers can bring their dogs on the hike, but must keep them on a leash and pick up waste as required by law. Paddlers will have two options at the event. At 10 a.m., they can take a 3-mile course up the Ohio River to Beargrass Creek following the channel along Towhead Island. A more adventurous course at 11 a.m. will take canoeists and kayakers through the McAlpine Locks and Dam to the Jaycees Boat Ramp in New Albany. TARC will offer a shuttle service for paddlers to retrieve their vehicles back at the launch site. All paddle participants will launch their canoes or kayaks at the river ramp located at the Harbor Lawn of Waterfront Park. Paddlers can drop their boats off at the “Green” parking lot near River Rd. and Witherspoon Dr. from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
