Halloween 2013 is October 31, which falls on a Thursday this year. If you have kids, get ready to follow close behind as they bounce from house to house, bearing bags stuffed with candy and howling "trick or treat!". Most Halloween parties and events were held this past weekend, so good old fashioned trick-or-treating is what's going on in Louisville this Thursday. Dentists, get ready to make a few extra payments on that Mercedes.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer twitter account posted this morning: "Note: City govt does not schedule trick or treating; we encourage parents/children to be cautious if there are severe storms as predicted" The forecast is a high of 69º and a low of 54° with a substantial chance for thunderstorms and rain. Bearing that in mind, it might be good to get out some light jackets and rain boots, or even forgo trick-or treating outside entirely and visit the malls.
From 5:00 to 7:00 pm you can visit The Mall St. Matthews and Oxmoor Mall with your kids to collect candy, and generally get the trick-or-treating experience without all the outdoor hassle of jackets and coats and crunchy leaves and weaving vehicles. If you're closer to Jefferson Mall, trick-or-treating is going on from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in select stores. Greentree Mall also offers trick-or-treating from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. If the weather happens to be nice, Hillcrest Avenue would be my pick for outdoor trick or treating. The Crescent Hill neighborhood street that runs between Frankfort Avenue and Brownsboro road is famous for its extravagant Halloween decorations, but beware, the realistic monsters and ghosts on some lawns could terrify your own little ghouls and goblins! Areas of town like Germantown and Schnitzelburg, where the houses are fairly close together, could be a good option for those who don't want to walk past acre plots of land to collect candy.
