It's getting down to the final days leading up to many children's favorite holiday: Halloween. Halloween is this Saturday, October 31. If you feel like filling up your entire week with Halloween festivities, check out this list of local spots having Halloween parties, events, trick or treating, freebies and more.

Trick or Treatment with Louisville Water Company
This event looks super cool! It will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Crescent Hill Reservoir and Gate House. It is hosted by Louisville Pure Tap. From the Facebook event page: "There will be many family-friendly activities, along with Shrek Characters from YPAS, a Zombie Walk with Tapper and other treats. Zombie walks are scheduled for 5, 6 and 7 pm. Costumes are optional. We will also be running a trolley between the Crescent Hill Reservoir and our treatment plant for tours. Hope to see you there and Happy Halloween!"

Enjoy a fun Trunk or Treat at Adventure Christian Church in Jeffersontown. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    Friday, October 30

Trunk or Treat at Walnut Street Baptist Church beginning at 6 p.m. This event has been moved due to the forecasted weather for this week, and with it happening on a Friday evening now it sounds like a great plan! This church does wonderful outreach into the community, go check it out!

    Saturday, October 31

    Boo Dell at Yew Dell
The Trail of Treats will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a magic performance following from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. This event is a first for my family and we are excited to go check it out! I really favor how the event is during the day, which leaves plenty of time for traditional trick or treating in the evening. The cost is $5 per car load or $1 per person if you walk in. Hopefully the rain will be out of the Louisville area by Halloween weekend!

Fright Light Party at Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium
This is another event that is happening during the day on Halloween. It's from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rauch Planetarium on University of Louisville's campus. The cost is $5 per person.

Those who show up at Krispy Kreme in costume on Halloween will enjoy a free donut at participating Krispy Kreme locations. It's called Mad for Monsters. See more on their Facebook page about this deal. Last year my kids and I went after we were done trick or treating through our subdivision. Mistake? Probably, but they enjoyed it!

Many area Kroger stores offer free trick or treating indoors through the grocery. We took advantage of this offer last year when it was so cold and rainy. It's a little something different to do! Most Kroger stores have signs up on their front doors indicating whether they are participating and what the times are.

In the past, Louisville area malls have offered free trick or treating throughout the malls. Double check the Facebook pages or call for announcements.
    Oxmoor Center, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Mall St. Matthews, 5 pm. to 7 p.m.
    Green Tree Mall, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Trunk or Treat at Okolona Christian Church will happen from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you and your family prefer to trunk or treat rather than trick or treat, this one sounds like a really fun one to attend. It's geared toward preschool and elementary age kids.

Head to Halloween on Hillcrest this Saturday or any evening this week for a frightfully fun time! Some of the décor is pretty scary, so little ones may not be up for this one. This is a great venue to walk the street along Hillcrest Avenue in Crescent Hill. Take the older kids and enjoy an evening along the Avenue as well. Those who plan to go are asked to bring a canned good to be donated to the United Crescent Hill Ministries (UCHM) Food Pantry.
