Hang-out time at one of greater Louisville’s many great parks still not enough to expend all of that inexhaustible toddler energy? Bring your tot to My Gym, Louisville, a fun, safe, and exciting way to engage kids in physical and creative play.

Owner Bill Berndt, better known as Mr. Bill, founded the Shelbyville Road My Gym franchise in 2002 after seeing the enthusiastic response from his own kids as members of a My Gym in Lake Worth, Florida. My Gym offers something for kids of any age – with classes starting for parent-supervised infants as young as three weeks and ranging all the way to cardio classes for pre-teens.

Classes are offered throughout the day every day of the week except on Sundays, and My Gym runs an excellent and popular summer camp program for kids ages two-and-a-half to eight years old. As described on their website, this three-hour daily camp is “a great way for kids to spend summer afternoons playing and having a ball in a fun-filled and safe environment. Our staff will lead three hours of interactive games, relays, tumbling, gymnastics, rides, and more.” Camp days include snacks. For $25 a session, this is a pretty stellar deal as far as summer programs go.

For My Gym’s infant and toddler visitors, the secure space provides freedom for exploration, self-confidence, and skill development. In addition to great socialization, the act of being around other children as they learn to move--from crawling to walking, from walking to running, and to slide, tumble, climb, and jump--definitely inspires tiny classmates to join in the fun.

This parallel-bar bridge is a toddler favorite and gently encourages walking skills.

Tots enjoy singing, dancing, and stuffed-animal puppetry during circle time, which opens and closes the classes for young children. The remainder of the hour is spent on any number of revolving play activities, including bouncing on a trampoline, swinging, riding down a supervised zip-line, tumbling practice, crawling and climbing over padded equipment, jumping into a ball pit, and a number of other fun games and exploration stations.

Tiny tots happily sing and dance during circle time at My Gym.
