    Bit to Do

Welcome to a new series I am bringing to readers each Tuesday, called Toddler Tuesdays. The idea will be to share a fun toddler approved activity we've done or are willing to try. I will also share some toddler friendly books, snacks, purposeful play ideas, etc., all while trying to keep the spotlight on our beautiful city.

So. Do you have a toddler? I do too. He's two and a half and went from scooting across the floor on his knees to running full speed with no medium switch. I've been home with him since he was born and I've learned a lot about exploring our city together. Because otherwise we would drive each other to destruction or some semblance of it, and we just can't do that.

Today for instance, we’re heading to our weekly music class with Heartland Music Together. I've been taking him to music with Heartland since he was 5 months old. We both love it. He lives and breathes music. I know every parent says that. But it's true! It's true for everybody. We jam each week, in each season. We attend semesters of classes at various locations around Louisville. Right now we’re in the middle of our spring semester. There will be a shorter summer session, and then it will start all over again with fall and winter classes. I’ve written extensively about Heartland Music Together because it is one of the best kept secrets in town!

After music class we’ll be off to our local library, Jeffersontown Library (part of LFPL). We are working on our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge and had met one of the milestones so we went and got recognized for that. While we were there, we couldn’t escape without picking up some more books to check out. Something else I probably love more than our music classes: the local libraries in Louisville. I’m a sucker for them. Since I used to be the storyteller at our weekly toddler and preschool storytimes, I suppose I am just partial to them! My toddler’s favorite book right now is Louisville from A to Z. I love this book too, written by a local author and it showcases all the great things about this great city! Also on his top picks each week? Trucks. Trucks, trucks, and more trucks.

His current favorite food is corn on the cob; know where you can probably get some great roasted corn on the cob? At the Flea Off Market that happens every month in the heart of Louisville right off of Market Street. It's an awesome outdoor bazaar where you will find just about anything! Check into your local farmer markets as well.

Be on the lookout for next week’s edition of Toddler Tuesdays. I’ll be sharing our outdoor adventures around the city, where we find “beaver dams” and woodpeckers together in our lovely parks and nature preserves.
