Once again, the University of Louisville Floyd Theater presents two fantastic movies on the cheap for the film fanatic’s viewing pleasure. This week is especially important for the many people who attempt to watch as many Oscar nominees as possible, whether to torture yourself or to try to get an extra edge in whatever guessing game you and your friends have come up with. (Off the record: it makes for a fantastic drinking game.)

But first up is tonight’s double screening of “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” the directorial debut of Angelina Jolie (which I have previously brought to readers’ attention). This film, which was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, is a love story set during the Bosnian War. Danijel is in charge of a prison camp, and there he discovers one of the prisoners is a woman with whom he used to have a relationship. Complications ensue. “In the Land of Blood and Honey” plays at 5:00 and 8:00.

The weekend film is the aforementioned Oscar nominee: “My Week with Marilyn.” The film takes place during the filming of Marilyn Monroe’s movie “The Prince and the Showgirl,” specifically during the week spent in England while her husband (playwright Arthur Miller) was away and she became dangerously friendly with the movie’s assistant director Colin Clark. As I predicted, both Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh were awarded Academy Awards nominations for their roles as Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier, respectively. “My Week with Marilyn” plays Friday and Saturday night at 5:00 and 8:00 and Sunday night at 8:00.
