'Tis the season, people! Let's bust out some clichés, shall we? The Holidays, amirite?? With a capital “H,” because we must be all-inclusive. (This atheist still celebrates, Christmas, by the way – just for the record.) We just had our first taste with Thanksgiving (no pun intended, but I noticed it right away, and it's staying), and Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanzaa/Festivus/Armageddon Day (12/21!) is just around the c corner. Yes, folks, it's that time when all our pesky relatives and in-laws come to town and annoy the absolute pa-tootey out of us, if we are to believe any number of Christmas specials. (Is this really the case for anyone, though? Really? If a liberal atheist with a Mormon family can peacefully celebrate Christmas, so can you. [Of course, I do keep a juicy secret or two from them...])
I got off on a tangent. What was my point? Oh, yes: alcohol. That is the second part of the cliché: that this is the way to deal with all those unbearable family members. It's also a good way to deal with good friends. I was all well and good at my pre-Thanksgiving party this year, but then a friend brought a bottle of Basil Hayden, and, well, let's just say that by the time it was time for me to carve the turkey, handling that knife was maybe not the smartest thing...
More tangents. Let's get to the point: the newest entry to the Louisville Exclusives series at Village 8 Theaters: Smashed
. It's about alcohol. Specifically, it is about a happily married couple, Kate (Mary-Elizabeth Winstead,
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
) and Charlie (Aaron Paul,
Breaking Bad, Big Love
), whose relationship may not be based so much on love for each other but on their mutual love for partying and getting drunk (or smashed – get it?). The relationship is put to the test when Kate decides she needs to stop drinking – and enlists Charlie to do so along with her.
Smashed
is scheduled to play at Village 8 until Tuesday, November 27, but this may be subject to extension. Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
