Next week is Thanksgiving. This is the time of year when we're supposed to express thanks for all the wonderful things in our lives. Of course, shouldn't we do that anyway? It's an important aspect of living an overall happy life, isn't it? The ability to recognize the positive and try to eschew the negative? An optimistic outlook. Anyway, life can be rough, but if I stop to think about it, I do have much to be thankful for, and for me, art is pretty high up there. Art of all varieties. I make art – or try to, anyway – I write and I film. I listen to music constantly and always have a book I'm reading. Up til recently I worked at a prominent local hotel/art gallery which was just fantastic. I'll miss all the art.
For the art lovers: we have a couple of interesting selections for this edition of What's Playing at the Louisville Exclusives at Village 8. We'll start with the documentary Herb & Dorothy 50x50, a continuation of the documentary Herb & Dorothy, which was about the art-collecting couple. After fifty years of compiling their collection, the Vogels ended up with 5000 works of art. What to do with it all? They travel across the country, hitting all 50 states and donating 50 works of art to a museum in each state. Spreading the love.
Also playing is something very exciting, the talk of the Cannes Film Festival and winner of the Palme d'Or, the film causing sensations all around the world: the French romance Blue is the Warmest Color. Adele passes an intriguing blue-haired girl on the street and that night dreams that this mysterious person comes to her in her bed. This girl is an art student, and when she becomes a part of Adele's life for real, everything is shaken as Adele embarks on a passionate and sensuous personal odyssey.
