The University of Louisville football team is trying to forget Florida State.

The Cardinals are collectively trying to put last week’s 42-31 loss - in which they led 21-0 - to the reigning national champion behind them as they head into another Atlantic Coast Conference game this weekend. Louisville (6-3, 4-3) will try to bounce back at Boston College (6-3, 3-2) in a big Atlantic Division game at 7:15 p.m. Saturday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

“We (have to) keep that from carrying on, it’s just motivation,” junior safety Jermaine Reve said. “We’ve seen how well we can play. We’ve seen how good we can be in one half, and we’ve seen ourselves not play up to our potential in the second half. It all comes from dedication and things like that. So that’s a testament for our defense, to come out and respond and show that we really are the best defense (in the country).”

UofL’s defense, which is still third against the run and sixth in total D in the FBS despite the loss to FSU, will likely be put to the test by the Eagles, especially given the fact that standout linebacker/defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin will miss the game due to injuries. BC boasts the ninth-best rushing attack (274.9 yards per game) in the nation. The Eagles are led by dual-threat quarterback Tyler Murphy. The senior has thrown for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns (against six interceptions) and run for 965 yards (he averages a whopping 7.4 yards per carry) and nine TDs. Stopping Murphy will be the main objective for the Cards.

“He is a talented individual who has done a great job where he is now, but at the end of the day it comes down to us getting lined up and playing with effort and energy, (and doing) the things we need to do to be successful,” UofL defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said.
