After an impressive Spring Game, the Louisville Cardinals football team has been working to follow up their stellar season last year, which famously concluded with a Sugar Bowl victory against annual powerhouse Florida.
Well, now the Cards saga is much like Rocky II, if you will and I hope you will, last year the Cards surprised the world by going the distance and claiming an upset over SEC powerhouse, Florida. They would be Apollo Creed in this analogy, brash and the former champ. And, like Creed the Gators at the end of the game were said to be uttering, “Ain’t gonna be no rematch, don’t want one.”
Like Rocky Balboa the Cards now survey a sudden onslaught of media attention, and a lot of people are asking them about what they plan to do this season, what about a rematch with Creed?
Recently, Louisville head coach Charlie Strong was spotted at the Kentucky Derby where he delivered a pre-race message that reminded everybody about the Cards’ pigskin efforts.
The team opens up their regular season August 31st against Ohio, they follow this up with in-state rival Eastern Kentucky September 7th, next the Governor’s cup as one of the most heated rivalries of the country writes another chapter when the Cards see Kentucky in Lexington September 14th, the always tough Florida International will be next September 21st, then Louisville takes a road trip to square off against the Owls of Temple October 5th, October 10th the Cards will see former Big East rival Rutgers, the Cards will next square off with Central Florida October 18th, then Louisville goes to Florida to play South Florida October 26th, there road trip continues in Connecticut when they meet the Huskies November 8th, they will follow this up with a November 16th game against former Conference USA rival Houston, next is longtime rival Memphis, and the Cards’ regular season concludes with the Bearcats in Cincinnati.
