The 2013 University of Louisville football season has begun. The Sugar Bowl Champs took on the Ohio Bobcats in a sellout game today to open up the season. Before 55,332 fans, the #9 Louisville Cardinals pulled off a 49-7 victory. And while we all enjoy watching Teddy Bridgewater throw touchdown passes, the tailgating is always the best pre-party for UL football fans and 90+ degree temperatures won't keep us away. The tents go up, coolers are packed and the tailgating spreads are impressive. A complete table consists of fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, homemade salsa, fruit and more with plenty of ice cold beer to wash it down. It is a great feeling of camaraderie to see all of those you spend football season with at the start of the year. The season kicks off with hot weather and then summer turns into fall, and the chili pots and hot chocolate replace the summer tailgating delicacies. Fans chant the C-A-R-D-S cheer as they walk into the game in their Cardinal attire. Even the kids enjoy it, throwing footballs and learning the Cards fight song for the first time. Growing up in Louisville as a college sports fan, this is engrained in me, but even those that are new to this city feel a sense of community when they become part of this ongoing tradition. UL tailgating brings together old friends, co-workers and family for a day full of fun to relax and cheer their team onto victory. On game day, your only stresses should be if Teddy can complete his fifth touchdown pass for the day and assuring the tailgating food and beer are of plenty. If you get a chance this season, try to fit one of the 6 remaining home games into your schedule for tailgating and some great Louisville football.
