Philadelphia funk/blues/hip-hop collective, G-Love & Special Sauce are in town tonight with very special guest on the bill the one and only blues singer/songwriter Keb ‘Mo.

G-Love & Special Sauce blew into the musical landscape in the late 90’s with laid back, urban groove and storied live shows.  Since then they have been one of the most revered touring bands in the countries and regular additions to almost every major festival in the world.  Hailing from Philadelphia, the band has a myriad of influences that seeps into every corner of their music so infectiously it’s impossible not follow where they lead.

Keb ‘Mo on the other hand began his career playing steel drums and calypso before becoming enchanted by original soundtrack of America…blues music.  And since his Keb Mo’ debut, he has continued to be one of the most consistent and impressive voices in the modern blues movement.  Beyond the music he has also appeared on television in Memphis Beat and The West Wing, as well as on radio on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion performing with Bonnie Raitt.

With these two bands on tonight bill at Mercury Ballroom, it’s a show that can’t help but be breathtaking in its proficiency and pure live poignancy.  From the mellow blues styling of Keb Mo’ to the party-infused funk blues of G-Love & Special Sauce – this is a less than obvious match made in heaven.  Seeing two artists of this caliber from two different generations is rare enough, but to see them come together like this…one can only imagine the possibilities.

The show starts tonight at 8 PM and tickets are $44.  This is without question one of the best bills any stage in this town has seen in a very long time.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
