It's the most wonderful time of the year — National Donut Day, of course! Here's a guide to hosting the ultimate donut party in Louisville to celebrate:

THE FOOD: Dunkin' Donuts is giving away a free donut with the purchase of a drink, and Krispy Kreme is giving out a free doughnut of your choice. There are two Dunkin' Donuts in Louisville — the one on Fourth Street is open until 6 p.m. today and the Bardstown Road location stays open until 9 p.m. The three Krispy Kreme locations are open until at least 11 p.m. The Bardstown Road and Seventh St. Road locations are serving donuts until midnight. You can score a free donut at Thornton's all day long with a Refreshing Rewards card.

Louisville has a lot to offer when it comes to the popular treats. Check out 5 donuts you should eat in Louisville right now. Other local choices include the following:

    • Plehn's Bakery at 3940 Shelbyville Rd. is open until 6 p.m.
    • Heitzman Bakery at 9426 Shelbyville Rd. is open until 6 p.m.
    • Hi-Five Doughnuts will be at the Flea Off Market Saturday and Sunday. You can check their InstagramTwitter and Facebook for location and hours.
    • Nord's Bakery at 2118 S Preston St. is open until 5 p.m. today. Grab a famous maple bacon donut or the cream-filled donut, said to be the favorite of Bill Clinton. Zanzabar at 2100 S Preston St. also makes a bread pudding from the bakery's donuts.
    • Clifton Donut Shop at 2317 Bardstown Rd. is open until 3 p.m.
    • Adrienne & Co. Donuts and Desserts at 5801 Highway 150 # US, in Floyds Knobs, Indiana or 129 W. Court Ave. in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Both locations close at 2 p.m. but the Floyds Knobs location will be open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow and the Jeffersonville locations will be open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Sugar & Spice Donuts at 5613 Bardstown Road closes at noon on Fridays, but if you're still looking for a donut fix tomorrow morning, stop on by between 5 a.m. to 2 p.m.

THE DRINKS: It wouldn't be a proper donut party without milk, orange juice, coffee and hot chocolate. Get your hot drinks at one of Heine Brothers' 13 Louisville locations or Quills in the Highlands or on the UofL campus.

THE ATTIRE: While donuts should be enjoyed at any time of day, they're most commonly eaten at breakfast. So why not make this a pajama party as well? Try on a customizable T-shirt from A. St. Clair, a company started by a Louisvillian. Or head over to BLōFISH in Nulu, which sells the world’s first gender neutral clothing line.

THE ENTERTAINMENT: You can watch Homer Simpson accidentally sell his soul for a donut in "The Devil and Homer Simpson."
