    Do you enjoy movies?

Do you enjoy listening to records?

Are you a fan of having electricity readily available in your home?

Do you lean more towards Direct Current as opposed to Alternating Current?

Well, me too (except for the DC versus AC part) and we all have the famous Wizard of Menlo Park to thank for these modern conveniences.

    The Wizard of Menlo Park?

    Exactly.

Of course, most of us know him better by his other name, Thomas Edison, and this man who is often regarded as one of the greatest inventors of all time is having a birthday this month. Our city is celebrating at the place he resided during his stint as a telegraph operator in Louisville.

The Thomas Edison House, located at 729 E. Washington St. in Butchertown, is having a birthday party on Saturday, February 9 from 10 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There will even be a birthday cake in the shape of a light bulb.

    Yes, a light bulb.

Admission is half price for adults and free for children under twelve.

The Thomas Edison House is part of the Historic Homes Foundation and has the mission of not only educating the public about Edison’s achievements in science and technology but also to inspire a similar type of creativity in those who visit.

So, bring your family and friends out on Saturday to wish Mr. Edison a Happy 166th Birthday.
