The Shakespeare in Central Park series has begun with performances of The Tempest, which will run through June 27.
The Tempest opened last night, and will continue tonight, June 18, 19, 20 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27 at 8 p.m. each night. Performances of The Tempest will take place at the C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheatre in Central Park, located at the corner of 4th and Magnolia streets in the Old Louisville district. All performances are free of charge.
In The Tempest, Prospero was sent away to an island by his brother Antonio, who then took Prospero's spot as Duke of Milan. While on the island, however, Prospero learns and refines his magic in an attempt to seek revenge and punishment against those who wronged him.
During The Tempest run, various acts may perform before the show. According to the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival website, Sonnets and Sonatas will be performed on Thursday evenings. Michael Toth will perform on Friday evenings to help discuss William Shakespeare's inspirations for his works. Saturday evenings will feature Queen Elizabeth and the Renaissance.
Last but not least, the show on June 20 will feature a behind-the-scenes discussion with performers and crew.
After the Tempest, the Shakespeare in Central Park series will include Richard III, Much Ado About Nothing, and Twelfh Night.
