Last year on Valentine's Day I was fairly miserable. My fiance had just shipped out for Afghanistan, and I was alone for the first Valentine's Day in years. Lucky for me, my best friend stepped in and took me on an amazing Valentine's date to Hillbilly Tea. Hillbilly Tea (at 120 South First Street) is a trendy cafe downtown with a forte in fresh, farm-to-table, vegan and veggie friendly cooking and invigorating teas (not to mention their tea cocktails!). I love their regular ever changing menu, but their special meal events are my very favorite. This year I plan on continuing the tradition and visiting Hillbilly Tea once again for their Valentine's Day meal!

The cost for two to eat at this wonderful Valentine's day feast is merely $69.00. When you consider that this is a five course meal, at an undeniably lovely place, on a holiday known for taking your lover out for expensive stuff, you have to realize this is an awesome deal. One the special menu for the Valentine's dinner:

Course 1: deviled egg with crispy confit duck wings (or deviled egg with crispy kale for the vegetarians)

Course 2: carrot soup with a caraway dumpling and sweet dream tea cream

Course 3: sorrel and roasted brussels salad with goat cheese, walnuts and twig tea dressing

Course 4: grilled bourbon marinated skirt steak with sweet potato and blue cheese casserole and red bush butter (veggie option with tempeh instead of steak)

Course 5: heartbeet cake with horny goat tea frosting

The dinner is at 7:00pm on Valentine's day, and it's reservation only so make sure you call (502) 587-7350 and let them know if you need the vegetarian options. Bring your best friend, your husband, your significant other, even your mom! Valentine's Day is about LOVE, not just the romantic kind.
