    As I’ve gotten older, braver and overall lazier, I’ve come to the point in my life where I’m completely fine taking a waiter’s suggestion and ordering verbatim. In addition to the fact that I don’t actually have to make a decision, I know that an experienced waiter’s word is worth its weight in gold – they eat this stuff on a regular basis. Whatever they’re not sick of must be good. I am so glad I took my server’s advice at Wild Rita’s, located at 445 E. Market Street.

    “I’m getting tacos,” I told him, “What are your favorites?”

    Without hesitation, he told me that the conchinita pibil, a beautiful combination of Mexican pulled pork, crema, radish and cilantro, was his pick. “It sounds weird, but it tastes like pot roast. It’s really good,” he told me. He was right; it did taste like pot roast. Delicious, unforgettable pot roast.

    His second favorite taco, he told me, was the queso frito y camarones, a mix of shrimp, cabbage and pico, tucked into a soft tortilla covered in fried cheese. One of my greatest shortcomings is that I am a sucker for fried cheese, and believe me, it made this taco what it is. The shrimp and cabbage was mild, but the tortilla/fried cheese combination gave it that familiar crisp cheese texture. 

    With these two tacos, the waiter suggested I get the taco plate, a nine dollar special that includes two tacos and two sides. The calabacitas, he said, were the best. It’s a delicious and savory side of tomatoes and squash, stewed together with spices. It was warm and it was welcoming and it was my favorite part of the meal.

    Head over to Wild Rita’s, grab a drink from their extensive tequila bar and enjoy the pure, unadulterated heaven that comes with a satisfying meal. Don’t forget to tip the your server, and take any tips they might, in turn, give you.
