Tackle Your Resolutions With New Year/New You at the Library
    Print this page

I’ll be honest: I’ve never been much of one for New Years’ Resolutions. I tend to make my goals year-round when the necessity comes up, rather than arbitrarily deciding that “This will be the year that…” But apparently it’s a thing people do – and apparently it’s a thing that people find difficult to follow through with. This makes sense: life is busy and hectic and it is so much easier to stick with our established habits. Lifestyle changes are easy to declare but harder to stick with.

Luckily, there is a place that is here to help, a place that is one of Louisville’s long-standing pillars of learning and knowledge: the library. With several branches scattered throughout the city, the Louisville Free Public Library declares January to be the month of the New Year / New You. Redefine yourself with one – or several – of these classes and workshops:

+ New Year’s Resolution Craft, teaching you a new craft.
+ Let’s Get Physical, a program designed to help you get in shape (statistically, the majority of you with resolutions are going for weight loss).
+ Read Away the Winter Blues Reading Contest, for those of you who want to read more but lack the motivation to make it a regular thing.
+ Recipe Swaps, to expand your culinary horizons.
+ 52 Week Home Organization Challenge Club, teaching you how to keep your living space a little less messy.
+ New Tech for a New Year, for those of you who (like me) are intimidated by the rapidly changing technological landscape.

Along with much more to be offered all month at various library branches throughout the city. For complete details and scheduling, check out the New Year / New You section of the LFPL website, or call 502-574-1611.

    About Allan Day

There are legitimate theories that the Big Bang originated from the collapse of a black hole in a fourth-dimensional universe. This stuff fascinates me, and I love reading about it. I love reading about science. And about anything, for that matter, provided it's interesting - and everything is potentially interesting, so I'm fascinated by a lot of things. I also read a lot of fiction (Kurt Vonnegut deserves deification) and watch a lot of movies (Charlie Chaplin also deserves deification). I've made a few short films myself. I'm also a writer of everything - I'm close to a Bachelor's in English at IUS. My life consists of reading, writing, bartending, and taking care of my daughter full-time. Life is busy and life is stressful, but that's why there's music and art and other forms of relaxation.
