Stocking a child’s book shelf can be quite expensive. While I’d love to be “The Giving Tree” with books in my home, I tend to be "the grinch" instead. As parents, we want our little loves to grow up literate and versatile--to know the classics, to read under the sheets with a flashlight at night, but the hard back versions that look so great on a shelf tend to cost upwards of twenty bucks a pop. A collection of them, a small fortune. That is why events such as the Friends of the Library’s book sales are invaluable.
This weekend, Friends of the Louisville Free Public Library, a non-profit organization that funds and enhances the libraries here in town, will host their 2010 Fall Book Sale in the Douglass Community Center Gym (2305 Douglas Blvd. 40205). A members only (memberships available at the door) preview night will take place this Friday, October 22nd from 6-9:00 p.m. and will be open to the public Saturday-Sunday, October 23rd (9-5:00) and 24th (1-5:00).
All hardback books are $3.00, but paperbacks and CHILDREN’S BOOKS are 2/$1.00! Proceeds from the sale will benefit various children’s programs at the branches throughout town. Swing by to stock those shelves and contribute to our town’s collective literacy.
