    Bit to Do

A New Page: New Fairdale Library branch hosts a Grand Opening this Saturday

A cosmetic overall doesn’t always need to walk hand-in-hand with vanity, a shallow soul and botox.  As an unabashed (and quite obvious – seriously, it’s absurd how much eye-liner I use.  No. Really.) lover and collector of all things aesthetic, cosmetic and all-around pretty (silly), these stereotypes so often sting me right to the core of my small, lopsided but passionately and profusely steadfast erudite heart.  Yes, beneath this veneer of lacquer and loose powder does – in fact – beat the heart of a nerd.  But even nerds can be sexy.  Come and celebrate the new va-va-va-voom! overhaul of the Louisville Free Public Library’s Fairdale branch.  After all the right tweaks, pinches and paint, the bigger, sleeker and eco-friendly neighborhood book nook is ready to have its ribbon cut this Saturday, March 24th

Built adjacent to the current Fairdale branch in the Playtorium, this sparkling and new free-standing design is a 7,600 square foot facility that elevates the library experience to the delight of bookworms, tech-geeks and environmentalists alike.  Inside a space that more than doubles the capacity of the former branch building, the spiffed-out Fairdale library houses state-of-art technology (at least for the next 18 months…thanks Moore and your silly Law), a large children’s section for the youngest readers and, of course, all the same books, movies and music our loving Library system has always provided.  As an added bonus and generous nod to the eco-chic, the new branch makes use of energy efficient and green building methods and materials.  Books, beauty and brains, my friends.

Starting at 1pm this Saturday, the new branch will unlock its doors for the first time in a Grand Opening celebration.  Tour the library, take the new computers for a test drive and enjoy light refreshments and family-friendly activities.  The first 250 people over the age of 12 will receive a USB flash (courtesy of the Library Foundation) already outfitted with a digital copy of Don Wittry’s History of Fairdale.  Oh, and did I mention the Mayor will be there?  Shimmy in a good elbow rub, get yourself a Library card and don’t ever forget – ready is sexy.

The NEW AND IMPROVED Fairdale branch of Louisville Free Public Library is located at 10620 Manslick Road.
