I don't know about you, but every day this week seemed like ten. I've earned this weekend--and I'll be damned if I spend it catching up on housework. If you've had a week like this, check out a few of the events below. Each event is a great way to make this Memorial Day a well-deserved success with both parents and children finally, deep sigh, happy.

Happy Hour at a Bats Game

: Before every Friday night home game, Budweiser beers are only a buck and fireworks follow the game. This Friday, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Bats logo hat. Before every Saturday home game, adult beverages (craft beers) are only $2.00. Live music and specials will occur between 5-6:30. Both Friday and Saturday, the Bats play the Yankees. On Sunday, kids can play for free in the inflatable fun zone (5-8:00) with the purchase of a ticket. Bring on the peanuts and cracker-jacks (and cheap beer)! Tickets range from $7-11.00

    Strawberry Festival

: This Saturday, May 28, at St. John Baptist's Catholic Church in Starlight, Indiana, worship the lovely summer goddess--The Strawberry. I attended this event with my family last year and it was a all a strawberry festival should be: quaint, hot, and sweet as the shortcake served there. A buffet is served in the parish's gymnasium (fried chicken and such), there are crafts and vendors, and plenty of games for the children (and beer--love those Catholics). The event is free and begins at 10:00.

Star Wars art at Ultra Pop!

: My son can speak a language I do not understand. It's riddled with words like "Boba Fet" but all his friends know exactly what he's talking about as they decapitate each other with imaginary light sabers. If you've got one of these at home, there is an art show for you. This weekend at Ultra Pop! on Bardstown Rd. the exhibit "Dark Side of the Empire" will feature portraits, screenprints, and sculptures of all the Star Wars antagonists. Get in touch with the dark side and have your boy actually dig some art.
