St. Lucia seemed to have a good time at Forecastle this summer. It turns out it was a good enough time to return within two months.

    Louisville is thankful.

On these first few days of fall, I’ve seen too much pumpkin, and needed a hoodie every morning and a tank top every night. Here’s my advice for this Friday night. Leave the sweatshirt at home, maybe even throw on a tank top, and head to Headliners for a ‘80s reminiscent, guitar-synth-heavy dance party.

If you weren’t sweating from the evening heat, you’ll be sweating by the time you leave the venue after St. Lucia’s show.

Basically the baby South African born and Brooklyn-based musician Jean-Philip Grobler, St. Lucia uses powerful, dreamy synths, riffs you can’t forget, and singable lyrics to perform their own music that seems like a John Hughes soundtrack if Hughes ever filmed on a tropical island. Get it? Yeah I thought so.

The five piece band will be playing songs from their two releases, an album, “When The Night” released in 2013, and two EPs, “St. Lucia” and “September,” released in 2012. Songs range from bass line-driven, falsetto heavy tunes like “Wait For Love” to the over 7 minute “When The Night,” which feels like it was pulled from some sort of ‘80s exercise/dance video. But it’s cool.

There’s one thing that’s guaranteed at a St. Lucia concert. If you are one of those people who thinks that you are too cool to dance a show, you will actually be in the minority at Headliners on Friday. Sorry about your luck.
