Louisville’s Catholic community is a rich part of the city and its history. As a rite of passage for living in the city, it’s almost a must that residents attend at least one of the city’s summer Catholic picnics. While they all benefit a good cause in helping the community, none is bigger than the St Joe’s Picnic, held this weekend, August 1st-2nd.
The 158th Orphan’s Picnic will be held on Saturday from noon until midnight. Visitors can expect the usual picnic atmosphere with dime and quarter games, a cake walk, pull tab games, over 60 booths and adult beverages and food. Last year’s picnic saw over 50,000 people attend and over 1100 cakes given away over the course of the weekend.
Friday Night Live will take place the night before from 5 pm until 10 pm. Musical entertainment will be performed by the Midlife Crisis Band and the Epics and the food and beverage booths will be open, as well as several of the adult gaming booths.
Organizers for St. Joe’s will also offer a raffle for tickets for the Capital Prize, weekend getaway, fine dining and grandfather clock to be given away.
The winner of last year’s Capital Prize took home a new red Ford Mustang, so be sure to get your tickets!
All proceeds of the picnic benefit the children of St. Joseph’s Home. Get your coins together, grab a bunch of friends and come out to the picnic on Frankfort Ave. this weekend. You could go home with a new plant, a delicious homemade cake, or even a brand new car!
