    Bit to Do

In its 54th year, the St. James Court Art Show is this weekend, October 1- October 3.  As it has grown, while the artists showing have become more prestigious, the parking has become more difficult and the crowds have grown larger, keeping some potential spectators away.  In addition, the growth of the fair has caused an increase in booth fees, making the St. James Court  Art Show inaccessible to many artists.

The solution for the last thirteen years has been the St. James UnFair.  Held behind the Magnolia Bar (or The Mag Bar, to friends) at 1398 S. Second Street, the UnFair features approximately 20 "starving" local artists, whose work ranges from blown glass (some live) to photos to jewelry.  This year's show will include works by Paul Harshaw (one of the show's organizers), Nikki Moore, and Judson Baker.  Not only should the crowds be a bit smaller than those at the St. James art fair, but the art should be more affordable for anyone looking to add some original art to their collection.  It also doesn't hurt that you can always swing through the Mag Bar and grab a beer.

One small note - if you attended the UnFair last year and noticed the issues due to the UnFair's lack of city permit, no need to worry this year, their permit is ready to go.
