The University of Louisville’s Saddle Seat Team was founded in 2009 with just 3 members that first year. They compete in the Intercollegiate Saddle Seat Riders Association (ISSRA). Since then the team has expanded over the years and includes members of varying riding experience. The U of L Saddle Seat Team provides college students an opportunity to continue to ride saddle seat throughout college and for new riders to get experience showing at the college level.
In 2011 the U of L Saddle Seat Team was the Reserve ISSRA National Champions. More recently the Saddle Seat Team won High Point Team at the ISSRA Show hosted by EKU at the KY Horse Park on Sunday, November 11. The University of Louisville Saddle Seat Team is based at Zubrod Stables in Prospect, Kentucky. The Team is coached by Deveau Zubrod.
After a formal riding evaluation and consideration of prior show experience ISSRA coaches place their riders in specified divisions. Senior team members compete in Open, Open Limit, Advanced, or Novice classes. Junior members compete in Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter or Beginner Walk-Trot classes.
Any undergraduate or graduate student with at a minimum of a 2.2 cumulative GPA enrolled full-time in a college or university is eligible to join the ISSRA as an individual member. Alumni riders are also able to compete in their respective classes.
