Recently, I got the chance to sit down and chat with Southern Indiana-based band The Juice Box Heroes. With their 1-year anniversary as a band as well as their biggest concert yet coming up, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to turn the spotlight on them.  If you’ve never heard of the Juice Box Heroes, the band consists of 5 members (graduates of local high schools, Jeffersonville and Floyd Central) who all have a background in theater and music. When asked why the group decided to form a band, lead singer, Daniel Farmer, told me he and drummer, Jordan Rajchel, had often talked about it but finally made the leap from words to actions roughly one year ago. Since then, The Juice Box Heroes have played many Kentuckiana venues such as Wick’s, Phoenix Hill Tavern, the Jeffersonville Riverstage, Hard Rock Café, and even the KFC Yum! Center for Thunder over Louisville.  They also play private events like weddings. Their set list consists of many hits and favorites from the radio including anything and everything from “It’s Tricky” to “Take Me Out”. They get bonus points from me for not butchering “Come Together” as most cover bands do! There comes a certain stigma with the words “cover band.” When asked about this, the band simply stated that they don’t take it too seriously. For them, performing is simply about having fun and making sure that their listeners are having fun as well.  If you’re wondering about their unique name, it was apparently one of the biggest issues the band has faced. For the longest time, the group didn’t have a name until one of the members suggested Juke Box Heroes after the song. With a humorous play on words, the band quickly became known as the Juice Box Heroes. Their next concert is July 6th and Kye’s II in Jeffersonville from 9pm-1am. The cover charge will be $5 in advance or $7 at the door. For more information about shows and booking, visit www.thejuiceboxheroes.com or www.facebook.com/thejuiceboxheroes.
