In 1972 the sport of Tennis in the U.S. was on the rise in popularity, much of this was related to increased television exposure and an explosion of a national audience.
This trend didn’t stop in Louisville as the Louisville Tennis Club first opened its doors to the public. Committed to the ideals of providing education and training for tennis players of all levels the club has become one of the preeminent tennis organizations in the country.
This was so much so that the club was awarded the USTA Southern Member Organization of the year award in 2000 and 2001, preceding those notable honors the organization achieved the award for KTA Facility for the Year in 1997 and 1999.
In addition to all of those accolades the venue on Herr Lane has become an amateur tennis landmark hosting events like the Boys’ 18 National Clay Court Championship, the Boys’ 14 U.S. Open and the Intercollegiate National Indoor Men’s Team Championships.
The tennis club prides itself on providing tennis opportunities for all people and as such offer leagues for anybody interested; with a humanitarian approach to the sport of tennis it’s easy to see why this venue has become an area sports landmark. The club’s pro-shop has garnered attention from all sorts of area tennis players and more than that they offer a collection of experienced educators and teachers that provide learning opportunities for anybody interested.
These kinds of organizations are truly important to a city’s culture, it provides opportunities for community outreach and development which is so important for any burgeoning and healthy city. The non-exclusionary nature of the Louisville Tennis Club really provides the opportunities necessary for a community’s growth not just athletically but cooperatively as well and that’s why the organization is a sports legend of the Ville.
