The Riverview Park Independence Festival is this Saturday, June 27 from 3 p.m. -10:30 p.m. This Fourth of July event comes a little earlier than some, but brings with it an absolute bang! Presented by sponsors Brown-Forman and LG&E, this festival in south Louisville is one of the best family-friendly Independence Day festivals in the city.

My family and I have yet to attend this event, but we are going to try to this weekend! We love this park in south Louisville with its splash park and sprayground. This park is a great venue for an old-fashioned Fourth of July fireworks celebration. Head there for free family fun and a great fireworks display!

    Highlights will include:

Demonstrations for the kids with Mad Science. Learn about the wonders of science by experimenting with cotton candy and slime.

Louisville League of Mascots to interact with the kids and crowd all day long.

Performance by country singer J. D. Shelburne starting at 8 p.m.

    Complete schedule of events includes:
    3 p.m. - The festival opens
    5 p.m. - Listen to 31w Band
7 p.m. - Riverview Festival Student Art Contest begins
    8 p.m. - J.D. Shelburne performs
    10 p.m. - Fireworks are set off

Follow the Riverview Park Independence Festival on Facebook and Twitter for updates. The event is located at Riverview Park, 8202 Greenwood Road.
