Manners are given a rude kick to the side in the comedy The Rivals, which will open at the Youth Performing Arts School this weekend.
The Rivals will take place on April 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. Shows on May 12 will occur at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. All performances will happen at the Youth Performing Arts School, located at 1517 South Second Street in the Old Louisville section.
Tickets for each show are $10 for general admission, $9 for students, and $9 for seniors. Due to limited seating, advance ticket reservations are recommended and can be made online at the YPAS website. More ticket information can be found by calling 485-8355.
The Rivals is an 18th Century British comedy that pokes fun at manners. Sophistication and sentimental themes are given a very satirical look as characters such as Mrs. Malaprop, Lydia Languish, and Captain Absolute make their way through the town of Bath. Romance, a possible duel, and much wit are to be expected in a usually prim and proper town.
Richard Brinsley Sheridan created the production, and William P. Bradford directed it. The show is considered appropriate for those in grades eight and above. More information on the show can be found at the YPAS website.
