Plenty of famous musicals and familiar scenes will be played out at Clarksville Little Theatre during its 2011-2012 season.
During the season, Clarksville Little Theatre will present five shows: Into the Woods (Sept.), Faith County (Nov.), On Golden Pond (Jan. 2012), Dreamgirls (March 2012), and Jesus Christ Superstar (May 2012). All shows will occur at Clarksville Little Theatre, located at 301 E. Montgomery Avenue in Clarksville, IN.
Tickets for this year are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors over 60 years old and students 13-18 years old, and $8 for children aged six to 12. Keep in mind, the theatre only accepts cash and checks.
Clarksville Little Theatre will open the season with the musical Into the Woods. A witch has cursed a baker and his wife with being childless. To break the spell, the couple will have to rely on other fairy tale heroes (Cinderella, Repunzel, Red Ridiing Hood, etc.).
Into the Woods will run at Clarksville Little Theatre on Sept. 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17 at 7:30 p.m. each night. A matinee will run Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. Debbie Rice Endris directed the production, with Dan Endris providing musical design and John Campbell Finnegan providing set design.
Following the musical will be Faith County, featuring the county folk going to the county fair. A throwback of sorts to simpler times, major attractions include an arts and crafts competition with outrageous characters and a love story.
Ron Johnson will direct the Faith County, which will have auditions at Clarksville Little Theatre on Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. The show will be performed from Nov. 4-12.
Travel to the lake for the next production, On Golden Pond. The show surrounds an elderly couple in the year at their home on Golden Pond, dealing with their marriage. The couple also gets a visit from their daughter, soon to be married, who had a rather abrasive relationship with her father. The Ernest Thompson-created, Russell Spencer-directed production will run in January.
On Broadway, on the big screen, and soon in Clarksville will be the musical Dreamgirls. For the few that don't know, the musical follows the rise, including trials and tribulations, of an all-girl R&B trio to superstar status. Kevin Swansey will direct the Tom Eyen-created show in March 2012.
Ending CLT's season is the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. The Andrew Lloyd Webber takes a look at Jesus's life in its last week, including the Last Supper and eventual nailing to the cross. Janet Morris will direct the production, which will run in May 2012.
