    The Louisville Youth Orchestra will present an official Derby Festival Event pops concert, And They’re Off!, at the Iroquois Amphitheatre in Iroquois Park on Sunday, April 26, 200 beginning at 3:00 pm.  On stage will be the Percussion Ensemble directed by Mark Tate, the Serenade Orchestra under the direction of Paola Manrique, the Concert Orchestra under the direction of Chris Lerner, the Repertory Orchestra under the direction of Richard Ryan, and the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Music Director, Jason Seber.  These five ensembles will perform pops selections including music by John Williams and selections by the Beatles and Metallica.
        
    Dignitaries at the event will include Mayor Jerry Abramson and Congressman John Yarmuth.  Congressman Yarmuth will take the stage as a special guest soloist in the performance of James M. Stephenson’s Concerto for Cell Phone.  Come see the artistic side of your Congressman!
        
    The Louisville Youth Orchestra, now in its 50th anniversary season, is dedicated to providing a high quality musical experience for its young musicians and audience.  Membership this year tops 350 musicians ranging in age from 5 to 21.  Anyone interested in joining the Louisville Youth Orchestra for its 2009-2010 season may contact Melody Welsh-Buchholz, Executive Director at 502- 896-1851 or log on to our website at www.lyo.org for information concerning auditions.
