It’s the weekend following Thanksgiving. The kids have been home since Tuesday afternoon. You may be home, having traveled the past two or three days for the holiday, and your kids are bundles of energy. It’s not too terribly cold outside this weekend, so what is there to do to keep the kids and your family occupied this Saturday and Sunday?

    Saturday, November 29, 10am-3pm

Visit the Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind! This Saturday from 10am-3pm the Museum is hosting a Family Day Open House. The Museum opens up for families to come explore everything they have to offer, and with families in mind they offer this open house to showcase this gem in Louisville to families you may have visiting you for the weekend. Visitors will be able to participate in a variety of activities including writing their names in Braille, playing games designed for children who are blind, and seeing one of Helen Keller’s Bible books. It’s fun for all ages, and holiday treats and apple cider will be served. The Museum at APH is located at 1839 Frankfort Avenue.

The Jeffersonville Ice Skating Rink also opened for the season on November 28. City of Jeffersonville also presents Nutcracker on Ice performed by the Louisville Skating Academy at 11am at the ice rink. See more details about all of the holiday events in Jeffersonville here.

    Sunday, November 30, 12pm-4pm

The Yew Dell Express train exhibit and holiday festivities begin this weekend at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens in Crestwood, KY.  Enjoy a model train exhibit and village inside the castle on the garden grounds, and walk through a snow village. Go shopping for unique gifts and children can travel through the grounds scouring a fun interactive scavenger hunt. They can also visit with Santa Claus. The event is free with paid admission to the gardens. The activities also occur on Saturday, November 29 and continue on the following weekends: December 6/7, December 13/14, December 20/21. Saturday hours are 10am-4pm; Sunday hours are 12pm-4pm. Santa visits from noon-4pm each event day. Yew Dell Gardens is located at 6220 Old LaGrange Road.
