My mom never let me have cake for breakfast. This is, I agree, a travesty of epic proportion, but I digress. Around once a week, while denying me regular cake with frosting, Mom and Dad would cook up FRIED cake, drizzle it in sugar water and butter (and peanut butter for me, the width of my hips makes more sense now, n'est ce pas?) and serve it to us in the guise of breakfast. Pancakes are wildly indulgent to begin with--what could be more indulgent than stuffing as many of them in your face as you possible can within ten minutes?
Wild Eggs, the Westport Village location at 1211 Herr Lane, is holding a Major League Pancake Eating Contest this Saturday, September 29th at 2:00pm. Hundreds of Wild Eggs' fluffy buttermilk pancakes will be ready for professional eaters and anyone (over 18!) who thinks they're up to the challenge to compete for a $2000.00, first prize, or varying other monetary prizes, down to $150.00 for fifth place. Entry forms are available at the several Wild Eggs locations around town, but be warned! This kind of prize money is apt to attract people desperate for both cash and carbs!
If you're not the type to begin your weekend by pounding your gut with eighteen or so pounds of pure carbaliciousness, not to worry! You can still attend and watch others do so--there will be a festival going on with face painting, a bouncy, and lots of other family friendly fun. Happy Eating!
