While growing up in a state that’s famous for its superior bourbon, most of us took note of the importance of the distilled product and its impact on Kentucky’s economy and culture at a very early age. Bourbon distilleries offering tours and dining experiences draw in tourism all over the state. Face it, which Louisville native hasn’t taken their visiting cousin on a tour of the Bourbon Trail at least once or twice over the years?
And for the visiting cousins who can’t shoot bourbon but love a good glass of wine, there’s Louisville’s Old 502 Winery, which brings in significant revenue each year from its tourist-attracting variety of loud flavors.
And now Old 502 Winery and Falls City Brewing Company are offering something new to Louisville’s out-of-town tourists and its natives who are eager to explore their own hometown. Introducing Over the 9, the Portland Neighborhood’s newest restaurant and bar.
Taking a step in the right direction toward the evolution of Portland, Old 502 and Falls City are opening the new restaurant at 120 S. 10th Street which is sure to bring a brand new dining experience to the area. “We believe Over the 9 can become an anchor for the future development of this part of the city west of 9th Street,” says Falls City Brewing Co. owner and Louisville entrepreneur, John Neace.
The restaurant and bar will offer a wide selection of Old 502 wines and will carry a changing list of at least six unique Falls City beers on tap, some of which will be unavailable in any other bar. The dinner menu will consist of original pub recipes constructed by Chef Griffin Paulin who has worked previously with other creative Louisville restaurants like Hammerheads and Roux.
Over the 9 will open its doors for the first time at 4pm on Friday, July 3rd just in time for the holiday weekend.
