If you had to pick, would you go somewhere for their wine selection or the beer they keep on tap? Guess what? You don’t have to choose now! You can have the best of both worlds here in Louisville.
Old 502 Winery and Falls City Brewing Company will be joining forces to create a beer and wine block for Louisville called “Over the 9”. Co-located on 10th street between Main and Market, owners John Neace and David Easterling are hoping to revamp downtown areas, more specifically those west of 9th Street.
The facility will be over 35,000 square feet, using multiple buildings, and cost around $1 million in renovations. But at the end of the day, the space, money, and wait will be worth it! Over the 9 will feature tasting rooms, indoor and outdoor space for customers to enjoy their products, and both wine and beer production. Don’t worry though; the wait won’t be too long! Over the 9 is expected to be up and running by the end of the summer.
John Neace is the owner of Old 502 Winery, which is located at 120 S. 10th Street. Old 502 Winery is Kentucky’s only Urban Winery and offers a “completely different wine experience — with wines that that embody the uniqueness and can-do spirit of our city.” What makes Old 502 special is that it is a local treasure and uses grapes that are grown by Kentucky Farmers to make wine right here!
David Easterling revitalized Falls City Brewing Company four years ago. Falls City states that, “Falls City began in Louisville, so the beer should be as great as the city. Now that it has come back home, it will be.” Falls City aims to bring back its original taste and vision from when it opened in 1905. Located at 545 Barrett Avenue, it will now be picking up and moving to the Over the 9 location.
Both Neace and Easterling have the vision and drive to push this to be a success. Now, beer and wine will be at one location and to top it off, it is all a local treasure! Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? Or in this case, drink it too!
