Touring behind their latest album, indie rock band Okkervil River will play the Louisville Palace this Friday, April 4. While it was scheduled to be the opening show of one of Louisville's newest music venues, the Mercury Ballroom, a last-minute relocation was announced this afternoon.
Silver Gymnasium was released last September, garnering quite a bit of press and inspiring almost universally positive reviews. Frontman Will Sheff conceived the album as a reflection on his childhood and adolescence growing up in New Hampshire. Something of a renaissance man, Sheff's endeavors don't stop at songwriting and making music. He also writes arts criticism and fiction, directed a short film based on the Silver Gymnasium material, and has recently acted in a movie, The Comedy. He founded Okkervil River in 1998 with friends in Austin, and since then has made seven studio albums, including the critically praised Black Sheep Boy, and indie favorites, The Stage Names and The Stand Ins.
The band Hundred Visions will open Friday night's show at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are General Admission for $25, which you can purchase online here. While this show was due to inaugurate the Mercury Ballroom (in the historic Wright-Taylor building at the corner of 4th and Chestnut), a construction delay has forced a relocation to the Louisville Palace (both venues are owned by Live Nation).
