    Bit to Do

The CVS threat may be over, but the Twig and Leaf still has some hurdles to overcome before it can be ensured that it’s here to stay—but there are still inside opponents to its permanence.

As Louisville.com first reported on March 17

, the longtime Highlands diner, located at the tip of the Douglass Loop, was eyed for a new CVS pharmacy.

Neighbors rallied to fight the purchase, and ultimately the plans were abandoned

    . In the meantime,

Deer Park residents petitioned to certify the building as a historic landmark

—and now there is a hearing scheduled for its approval.

“There’s a petition, then there’s a hearing after the documentation,” says Terra Long, legislative assistant to Councilman Tom Owen (8th District).” Scheduled for Monday, November 29 at 5:30 in the Old Jail Courtroom, 514 West Liberty, the hearing will include opposing testimony from the attorneys in charge of the trust that owns the property—not the restaurant.

The owner of the Twig, although reached for comment, was mum.

Whether the landmark approval is given has yet to be seen. “It might, it might not,” says Long. “We’re not sure if the Twig and Leaf even wants to be a landmark.”
