CVS, which attempted to get the Twig and Leaf property for a new drugstore, has reignited its interest in putting down roots in the Douglass Loop area.

According to Terra Long, legislative assistant to Councilman Tom Owen (8th District), the Woonsocket, R.I.-based chain is still trying to acquire property in the Douglass Loop area. Despite the landmark status granted to the Twig and Leaf restaurant this past April, a number of buildings—including Café Metro—are still vacant.

However, a local business may take over the space, ultimately thwarting the plan. Jenifer Frommeyer, director of Dreams With Wings, a social services organization that provides housing and support opportunities to developmentally disabled children and adults, is “working on” purchasing the end building on the block in question.

Dreams With Wings currently is located a few blocks north of the Loop at 1579 Bardstown Road.

In other neighborhood news, the old Hollywood Video at 2470 Bardstown Road will become a Kroger Spirits store at an undisclosed date.
