This edition of UK's football team seems to like drama. They like to get behind from the beginning and claw their way back into competition by the 4th quarter. It's just enough to keep all of us cheering and hoping... but ultimately wondering- what if?
What if, we don't let the other team score on their opening drive? What if, we start the game with the same intensity we seem to find each game in the second half? What if, we actually beat teams that we are better than?
This year's UK team has shown all of the fans they can compete with the best of the best, as evident against Auburn and South Carolina. Unfortunately more often than not, they decide to compete too little too late. Each and every game, it seems if the team is ranked in the top-10 or if they're not even ranked- you can guarantee UK will shoot themselves in the foot, fall behind and end up coming just inches or seconds short of a win.
The scheme isn't working. Except for the South Carolina game, the apparent game plan of getting behind and try to win in the second half just hasn't worked. I don't believe it's by design, but with a pattern that's so obviously consistent- it's hard to understand why it hasn't changed.
This weekend against Charleston Southern, UK looks to pamper its record. With a win, they'll be at .500 again with Vanderbilt and Tennessee left to play.
The destiny of UK's season this year is in the player's hands. They could win out the season and end up 7-5, which is always respectable for UK in the SEC.
But, even in the perfect scenario ending, we'll still be left wondering for the season... what if?
