Jose Cuervo, Don Julio, the makers of Patron and the residents of Margaritaville all voted and the decision is unanimous: tequila is simply fantastic. The drink that was originally produced in South America has grown into a world-wide sensation and something so fantastic and internationally popular deserves to be celebrated. Because honestly, who doesn’t love a good shot of tequila?

Local chef John Varanese believes in the wonderful freeing powers of the beverage, which is why he’s opening the doors of his restaurant, Varanese, to the city’s biggest Tequila lovers tonight in honor of National Tequila Day!

Louisville-based chef Varanese has made quite an impressive name for himself in the culinary world throughout his career. He was awarded with the title of “Restaurateur of the Year” by the Kentucky Restaurant Association in 2013 for his excellent culinary skills, and was featured in the book “Best Chefs America” that same year. So saying he knows his way around the kitchen is certainly an understatement.

And it’s clear that he certainly knows his way around the liquor cabinet as well. Varanese showcases an incredibly inventive bar menu seven days a week, and National Tequila Day is making the selection even more exciting.

In celebration of this unique drinking holiday, Varanese will be serving a special Tequila Day cocktail which will consist of the sweet juice of strawberries, the spicy kick of jalapeno peppers and the refreshing coolness of tequila.

Along with this special limited-time-only beverage, Varanese will be offering a one-of-a-kind appetizer which will feature the delectable pairings of crisp cucumbers, freshly picked strawberries, savory bay scallop ceviche and you guessed it, tequila!

Varanese will be celebrating National Tequila Day on Friday, July 24th and is located in the Clifton neighborhood at 2106 Frankfort Avenue. The restaurant will be open for dinner from 5pm – midnight. Reservations can be made by calling (502)899-9904 and on the Varanese website
