If you attend local music festivals and concerts you have probably seen Rachel Blanton playing violin at some point. Rachel started playing violin at a young age and continued her studies on the violin earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the University of Louisville. Along with completing her own studies on the violin, Rachel has completed teacher training courses with Suzuki Association of the Americas. Since 2000 Rachel Blanton has been teaching violin at the Sacred Heart School for the Arts where she has spearheaded the development of its string program. In addition to her impressive teaching career, Rachel is also very active in the Kentuckiana area as a performer.
Rachel is an active musician with the period-instrument ensemble, Bourbon Baroque. Bourbon Baroque specializes in performances of 17th and 18th century music in chamber, orchestral, and choral/operatic settings. You can read a review of recent performance "Les Sauvages."
Besides being a refined baroque violinist, Rachel is also a highly accomplished fiddler. Rachel has played with numerous Irish bands, The Commonwealth, The Porch Possums, Abbey Road on the River, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Whether it be classical, baroque, Irish, and/or rock Rachel will play it all.
Rachel also freelances for weddings, church services, and any other events that may need a violinist.
