Murder By Death returns to their adopted hometown of Louisville this weekend for a very special Oaks Night show.
The band formed just up the road in Bloomington, In. a decade and a half ago. They immediately became indie darlings, thanks to the strength of their early live shows, earning early respect from Geoff Rickly (singer for Thursday) and My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way (who provided vocals for the band’s song “The Devil in Mexico”). They garnered early praise from critics for their debut album “Like the Exorcist, but More Breakdancing” and then the indie-masterpiece that followed: “Who Will Survive, and What Will Become of Them?”
The independent alt-country collective has released seven albums (the last three of which charted on the Billboard top 200). In February the band released their latest album, “Bid Dark Love,” a crowdfunded album released through Bloodshot Records. The band raised over $275,000 through Kickstarter to fund the production, release and promotion of the album.
Toward the end of 2014, the band relocated from Bloomington to Louisville, the hometown of founding member and cellist Sarah Balliet. The burgeoning art and music scenes in Louisville, along with its centralized geographic location for touring was an irresistible draw for the band. The group has been here ever since.
On Friday, Oaks Night, they will launching a nationwide tour in support of “Big Dark Love” with a mostly free concert at Headliners Music Hall, presented by Do502.com. If you R.S.V.P. through the website you will be put on a guest list to get in for free, otherwise costing $5.02 at the door. Tickets are still available, the show begins at 9:00 PM, Twin Limb and Morning Teleportation will also be on the bill.
