Fall is upon us and that means it's harvest time! You can't celebrate Harvest in Louisville without a harvesting of Mighty Kindness! The annual Mighty Kindness Harvest Hootenanny is this Saturday at the Brown Foreman Amphitheater (at the waterfront park near Tumbleweed).
The Mighty Kindness festivals are bi-annual with one in the spring for Earth Day and another in the fall. The group behind the festivals aims to bring together artists, musicians, and mighty kind people with local farms and businesses.They've seen an exponential growth each year, outgrowing Willow Park and the Louisville Nature Center as festival grounds. Their new home at the Brown Foreman Amphitheater has been made posisble by the Kentucky Chiropractic Association's sponsorship.
According to their web site, "The Mighty Kindness Harvest Hoot brings together local services for the body, soul, heart and mind that make our commonwealth more rooted and kind. It is a free community unity festival that celebrates kindness where you'll find local food, music, art, green businesses, neighborhood & social justice organizations, Fun for Kids, the healing arts, the spiritual community, cultivating connection circles, free workshops and more! The Hoots are all about feeding the peace, love, joy, healing, knowledge, sustainability and strength of our community so bring your family and friends for a celebration of life and possibility! The Mighty Kindness Earth Day Hootenanny was voted '2nd for BEST FESTIVAL IN LOUISVILLE!'"
This year's Harvest Hootenanny brings in some new activities like the Mighty Kind Second Line: a walking drum line that hopes to bring a little bit of New Orleans to Louisville. Every vendor at the hoot was invited to decorate an umbrella. Every time they hear the drumline begin it's march through the festival grounds, they are invited to grab their umbrella and join the parade.
Other vendors range from artists and craftspeople to local farms, spiritualists, and massage therapists. There are plenty of things for families to do as they enjoy the day of music by local artists. The entire day is very family friendly and ends with a giant group hug at 6 p.m.
