I spent my 21st birthday in Chicago. It was rainy. We were hungry. And we knew a friend of a friend who said she was working at a Mediterranean restaurant downtown. But it turns out she wasn’t waiting tables. She was dancing around them – in a tasteful and partially-clothed, culturally-relevant manner, that is... And it was that evening that first introduced me to the genuine art of belly-dancing and taught me that it a) exists and b) is pretty stinking cool to watch.
Want to see for yourself? In a move somewhat similar to that Chicago establishment from my coming-of-legal-drinking-age memory, It’s All Greek to Me (2716 Frankfort Ave.) will be hosting a belly-dancing demonstration and beginner’s tutorial Friday evening starting at 7 PM. Of course, once you start shaking with Greek expertise, you’ll probably want to eat with Greek expertise and you will be in the right place to do that.
The event will also make use of It’s All Greek to Me’s new spatial expansion into the location that formerly belonged to Conez and Coneyz.
